Long Time, No See

Keith Armstrong

Keynote: (9.30am) P152, Dunedin School of Art, Otago Polytechnic, Riego Street

Keith will discuss the project, Long Time, No See? which draws participants into an innovative arts based engagement with sustainability. Drawing on participatory practices and through the use of mobile devices, the project prompts participants through a process of thinking, mapping, talking and walking in their locality with a view to provoking grounded reflection about care and futuring. The intent is to map the intensities of shared values and commitment in a gradually expanding global network of affinity and momentum for change. This is set against and embedded into a web-based generative visualisation and sonification of massive datasets of demographic, geographic and environmental data.

Walkshop: (2pm) Leaving from P152, School of Art, Otago Polytechnic, Riego Street

This walk/workshop will ‘guide’ participants through a series of questions, reflections and instructions to encounter their local environment in a different way to that which they are most usually engaging with it.

Following a field guide through a mobile device, assisted by a printed booklet, participants will venture forth alone or in groups into the surrounding environment to explore and reflect, in the spirit of adventure, to reveal other and emergent ways of existing in this world through poetic actions that animate a sense of care.

You will need a fully charged Apple (or Android) smartphone (IPhone is preferred to access our custom App) or share with another person,  sensible shoes and a weatherproof jacket and please See agenda.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body through the Broadband Arts Initiative, QUT Creative Industries, The Cube, UWS and Griffith Design Futures.
