Expressions of interest are invited for an artist or an arts collective to tour the nation giving masterclasses and/or workshops as part of the ADA Mesh Cities project. With at least two workshops and/or masterclasses in both the north (Te Ika a Maui) and south (Te Wai Pounamu) islands, these will include practical instruction where audiences and practitioners may learn new skills as well as participating in discussions about various aspects of media art practice, exploring issues such as inhabited spaces, social engagement, memory and speculative futures.
eighbourhood Hope Index’ uses clouds and sound to map affective zones in post-earthquake Christchurch. The framework for this artwork stems from the emergent currency of data in the plan for a better city. A so-called silver lining for the embattled inhabitants is that a ‘smart’ city may emerge where the instrumental measurement of traffic flows, water quality, air quality and urban weather can be remedied.
Attendance at ISEA 2013, supported by Creative New Zealand is an output of the ADA Mesh Cities project. ADA members presented a panel titled Media Art and the Transitional City. The ISEA roundtable conversation has been worked into a paper for publication in the ISEA conference proceedings.
